I was bored today, go figure, I am unemployed after all. There is just so much time you can spend on Facebook. I have been kicking some major ass in Mafia Wars and my in my FarmTown I made a zillion bucks, oops A.D.D back on track.
Guess what I did today? I bet you have no idea. I watched Bloomberg give a speech, this was the official title Sec. Duncan and Mayor Bloomberg discuss Education Reform in the 21st Century. It was a breakfast in Washington D.C. Mayor Mike got to read a speech saying just how great NYC schools are and teachers need to be held accountable, that is why we have all these tests and we will grant tenure to teachers who perform like circus monkey's, I mean he said those that have students with the best scores get a free ride and those that score the lowest are thrown out on the loser butts that they are. Ummm Mike someone has to get the lowest score so you are a little sly one on the scare tactics.
While I am listening to his spectacular speech, I noticed something he was stumbling over his written words. Damn Mike couldn't you read the effin thing first. You dolt.
So as he goes on how we have to get rid of these bad, good for nothing teachers he goes on to say the Rubber Room is a disgrace because we have to pay teachers so sit in them. He does not explain what a Rubber Room is for and just how many teachers are unjustly place there.I just want to say Mike you are such a prat.
Damn unemployment rocks!!!!!
Mike you are lying about the NAEP scores now, way to shell game the statistics, man are you people naive., but I am not. Okay I can be blond at times but I know education better than Joel, and I am mean. Make me Chancellor I can whip those bad teachers down. Oh yeah that's right I have a soul.
It think it is time for me to get back into the game. Thanks Mayor Mike you making my company leave the city gave me an outlet. So now you screwed two things that are dear to me up. a) my sons education and b) my money making ability. I do like to stimulate the economy.
I decided I could not watch anymore without throwing a rock through the tv. Oh wait there you
go saying you close failing schools and then open news schools with new teachers and administration. New leadership from the leadership academy that has your friends tax breaks written all over it. But as he said that he threw the ATR's under the bus. He had the nerve to say we should get rid off all ATR's and Rubber Room people. That they are only a waste of money that could be spent in the classrooms. Really Mike what classrooms the overcrowded classrooms that you forgot to mention. Or all the money that you have cut out of schools and then turn around and blame your teachers for the failures. Holy shit, I better just shut him off now. but I always liked to watch a train wreck.

What is the role of a PTA in a school?
The PTA is supposed to be a liaison between the parents and the staff of a school.
If the parents are upset about an executive decision that was made at your school in regards to class size being large and you as the PTA President have been asked to bring it as a new Agenda item at the next meeting is it to be ignored, as not a role of the PTA?
If you find out there might be a good chance that a class might have up to 40 students next year would that not be a PTA issue, or are we supposed to just ignore the fact because the Principal says there is nothing you can do about it, this is just the was it is going to be? Are we not supposed to question what is happening in our school, where are children are supposed to be educated, are we supposed to be quiet and just be steamrolled.
When the new Children's First intuitive was brought forth and we knew that this would be a disaster in the making, taking seasoned teachers out of our school was that not important?
This has been on ongoing situation in this school, it has happened before and it will happen again, the only difference is the parents in this school are vocal despite what we are told, and if we are to lay down and just take it next year all the classes will be 40 and then you can take your cushy top ten standardized math and reading scores and wave them goodbye.

Politic's as usual
Political games are being played with our children.
Let us just look at the Children First Reforms. Bush visiting a Charter School to say how great his NCLB reforms are working.
Why did Bush not go to one of the worst schools in our city and go sit in a trailer that leaks when it rains or watch the children being taught in the broom closet. By the way I was a student that was taught in a janitors closet way back in the days when the dinosaurs roamed the earth.
I have been reading all the comments that people who have been involved with education issues when Mrs Pissed Offs daddy still braided her hair in pigtails, and they all say the same thing. That the new reforms should be put on hold.
One thing I find interesting is that they say that this new reform is designed to make the middle class flee from the system in droves.
I will say this, in my middle class neighborhood it has been well known that you send your child to the elementary school, the middle school if your child makes SP or magnet and start saving your money for Private High School. I find this sad, parent's would be apt to trust the DOE if they were honest with the public.
About the Class Size Issue, this is what got me involved with education issues. Class size is enormous and with two children that were in large classrooms I know how hard it is on a teacher to give individual attention to a large class, especially a class that needs to be put in order for behaviour. Mr. Pissed Off figured out that if a class size was 36 a teacher would have 6 1/2 minutes to spend with your child alone. This is in a elementary school setting.
I remember at one time that small class size funds were to be given down from Albany specifically for small class size. It was a victory and it was done for a few years until then Governor Pataki decided to give block grants instead. Well we all know what happened to small class size it was all but forgotten.
Now the DOE is saying that they will come up with a plan to implement small class size in the next five years, and proponents are saying it can not happen and lets not rush into it. Lets not rush into it how about we just forget it all together, how about we just close down the schools, children just do not need to be educated why bother. There is more than enough room in the jails for them.
So when is that revolution???

Parent's love charter schools
or so says today's Daily News Opine. Supposedly we love charter schools because we apply to them in droves. Yes parents do apply to charter schools.
The same parents that are desperate for their children to have some sort of decent education because they can not afford a private one. This goes back to unfair funding, shortage of teachers, large class sizes but you have read this here before. I hate to sound redundant.
It also has a lot to do with No Child Left Behind. Every child is left behind with this government mandate. As it is good in theory it stinks otherwise. Another reform without the money to back it.
I have seen the results of transfers from NCLB in our elementary school. The children are moved over, the are in need of services. The schools support team is already over taxed but they need to take in the 4 children, Georgie said so. So once again the children are short changed because now the resource room teacher has additional children in the room and the small class that she was supposed to have has now turned into just another classroom where the children are not getting the support they need.
Lets try to find an incentive to attract teachers into the system instead of making them run to the suburbs. Then the other chips will fall into place.

Out of the mouth of babes
I picked wee one up after school after him being out for a day with a stomach virus. He had a substitute. I asked him if was given the homework and he said no but that he wished he did not have a substitute because his work was to easy today and he needed to have Miss Lovely so he can have harder work.. Oh my, can it be a child that wants to be educated? Someone has to remind Mrs. Pissed Off to thank Miss Lovely for making the work to hard and making my child reach for the stars.
On another note he was reading to me and I had to give my 6 year old a big high five for knowing the words Constellation and Astronomy, and the true meanings of said words.
